City of Miami Beach, 1700 Convention Center Drive, Miami Beach, FL 33139, www.miamibeachfl.gov OFFICE OF MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS, Tel: 305.673.7575 Press Release Melissa Berthier, Email: melissaberthier@miamibeachfl.gov Matt Kenny, Email: mattkenny@miamibeachfl.gov FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Oct. 28, 2022 Miami Beach Trolley Service Receives $1.25M Florida Grant — Meanwhile, the on-demand Freebee service received $158,000 — Miami Beach, FL – The City of Miami Beach has been awarded $1.25 million in state grant money to fund the popular free trolley service in South Beach and a separate award of $158,000 toward the Mid Beach on-demand Freebee service. “Our trolley and Freebee services remain two of the most popular ways to get around Miami Beach,” explained Miami Beach City Manager Alina T. Hudak. “In addition to being better for the environment, these alternate forms of transportation reduce congestion on our roads and increase mobility options.” Covering fiscal year 2024, the awards were issued by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) public transit service development program, which provides up to three years start-up funding for new public transit projects and up to 50% of the operating costs of the service.
