•Many police academies and agencies teach
subjects in a block and silo format.
•This format has proven not to be conducive to
long term retention of information (O’Neill et al., 2019;
Brown et al., 2014).

•MBPD trainers often use the
technique of interleaving as
opposed to block and silo
training.
•Interleaving is a learning
technique that involves mixing
together different topics or forms
of practice, in order to facilitate
learning (Brown et al., 2014).
•This is done in the form of
scenarios, role playing and skill-
builders (i.e. drills and exercises).
